Anxiety, Stress & Panic Attacks
Stress tends to be a short term response to external pressures and immediate demands. It often leads to feelings of overwhelm, frustration or tension.
Anxiety is more future oriented and linked to worries about what might happen. It tends to be a reaction to prolonged stress and can lead to persistent fear, nervousness and dread.
For some people, anxiety can escalate into Panic Attacks. These are intense surges of fear or discomfort that can include physical symptoms such as a racing heart, breathlessness, dizziness, shaking or a sense of losing control. Panic attacks are driven by the brain’s threat response rather than real danger, which is why they can feel frightening but are not harmful.
Both stress and anxiety can be beneficial in the right situation, but for many people they become patterns that need support.
For most of us, fully removing stress and anxiety from everyday life is not possible, so how we manage them is key. This is where I can support you. I will help you recognise and understand your unique stress and anxiety responses, including panic, and introduce practical tools and techniques through hypnotherapy to help you feel more in control.
Using a blend of clinical hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and neuro linguistic programming techniques many clients report they may:
- Notice a greater sense of calm and peace
- Experience improvements in sleep
- Feel more confident in themselves
- Enjoy life with greater ease

Grief
Grief is a natural response created by your brain when you lose someone or something that mattered deeply to you. Everyone experiences grief differently, and there is no right or wrong way to grieve.
When a loss happens, your brain moves into protection mode. It can create waves of sadness, anxiety, numbness, anger, or exhaustion as it tries to help you adapt to a new reality. I will help you understand what is happening in your brain during grief, so you can feel less overwhelmed and more in control of your emotions.
Some people find that time alone helps them come to terms with their loss. For others, the feelings remain intense or become stuck, making it harder to move forward. Together, we work gently and at your pace to calm the nervous system, ease emotional pain, and reduce overwhelming thoughts.
Hypnotherapy can help your subconscious mind release unhelpful emotional patterns and build new, supportive responses. It can be especially helpful for managing deep sadness, anxiety, insomnia, and the emotional ups and downs that often come with grief.
Our work is not about forgetting or letting go of the person you have lost. It is about helping your brain adapt, feel steadier again, and carry your memories in a way that feels lighter, calmer, and more manageable.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
I work with people who are experiencing the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, including ongoing anxiety, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, emotional overwhelm, disturbed sleep, and a sense of being stuck in the past rather than fully present in everyday life.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder develops when the brain and nervous system remain in survival mode after a distressing or overwhelming experience. Even when the event has passed, the brain continues to respond as if danger is still present, which can affect emotions, thoughts, physical sensations, and behaviour.
My work focuses on helping the nervous system feel safe again. Using a gentle, practical approach grounded in psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy, we work to help you feel safer and build confidence with reactions linked to past distress.
Hypnotherapy supports the brain to process experiences without reliving them, while solution focused and mindset based techniques such as CBT and NLP help build confidence, resilience, and forward movement.
Sessions are always paced carefully and collaboratively. There is no pressure to talk in detail about past events. The focus is on helping you feel calmer in the present, improving sleep and emotional balance, and supporting your brain to move out of survival mode and into recovery.
Support is available for adults and teenagers, with sessions offered in person and online.
School Anxiety
For some young people, the pressures of school life can become overwhelming, making it difficult to attend lessons, concentrate, or feel safe in the school environment. School anxiety can show up as stomach aches, headaches, sleep problems, emotional outbursts, panic, or a strong reluctance to go into school, and it often builds gradually over time.
When anxiety becomes intense, the brain moves into protection mode, making everyday school situations and exam pressures feel threatening. This can leave young people feeling trapped, exhausted, and out of control. Parents may notice their child becoming withdrawn, irritable, or increasingly distressed about school.
Young people are also under significant pressure to do well in exams, and exam stress can affect eating, sleeping, anger levels, confidence, and emotional wellbeing. For some students, this stress can become the tipping point, especially if they are already struggling with anxiety or low mood.
Solution focused hypnotherapy helps with both school and exam anxiety by supporting relaxation, building emotional regulation, strengthening confidence, and helping young people understand their anxiety responses. Using a gentle, practical, and neuroscience-informed approach, we work to reduce anxious thoughts and build a stronger sense of safety and choice around school and exams.
Through visualisation and tailored sessions, we replace unhelpful thought patterns with calmer responses, practical coping tools, and greater resilience, supporting a more positive and manageable relationship with school and academic pressure over time.
The NCH articulates this, stating that hypnotherapy “unlocks the potential you have to break free of negative thought patterns, and to react more positively and more confidently to situations in your life that may have previously made you anxious.”
Sleep Issues & Insomnia
Sleep problems are very common and are often linked to stress, anxiety, and an overactive mind. When the brain stays in protection mode, it becomes harder to switch off, relax, and fall into a natural sleep rhythm.
Many clients find that hypnotherapy supports relaxation and can help many clients ease into more restful sleep patterns.
By understanding what is happening in your brain at bedtime, you can begin to reduce racing thoughts, physical tension, and night-time anxiety.
We also work with your natural circadian rhythm, which is your body’s internal clock that controls sleep and wake cycles. When this rhythm is disrupted by stress, screen use, irregular routines, or poor sleep habits, sleep can become lighter and more broken. You will learn simple sleep hygiene strategies to support melatonin production, reduce cortisol, and help your brain recognise when it is time to rest.
Solution focused hypnotherapy supports better sleep by building new, healthier bedtime patterns and relaxing subconscious responses. Together, we work on easing stress, quietening the mind, and creating a stronger sense of safety and control around sleep.
Through guided relaxation, visualisation, and practical tools, we replace unhelpful sleep habits with calming routines and supportive thought patterns. This helps improve sleep quality, reduce night-time waking, and support deeper, more refreshing rest over time.
Phobias
Fears and Phobias are learned responses created by the brain to try to keep you safe. Even when the threat is no longer real or helpful, the brain can continue to trigger anxiety, panic, or avoidance automatically.
Solution focused hypnotherapy helps retrain the brain to respond more calmly and confidently to the situations that currently feel frightening. Rather than simply pushing through fear, we work with the nervous system to reduce threat responses and build a stronger sense of safety and control.
There are two main types of phobias:
Simple phobias
These usually relate to specific objects or situations, such as animals (spiders, dogs, insects), bodily fears (vomit, blood, injections), or environmental fears (heights, flying, enclosed spaces). Simple phobias are often resolved in around 3 to 4 sessions.
Complex phobias
These are more closely linked to ongoing anxiety and life situations, such as social anxiety or driving anxiety. Complex phobias usually take around 6 to 8 sessions, although some people may need more support depending on their experience and goals.
I work with both simple and complex phobias using a gentle, practical, and neuroscience-informed approach, including:
- Hypnosis to calm the nervous system and update subconscious threat responses
- CBT and NLP techniques to reshape unhelpful thought patterns and build confidence

Relaxation Session - 40 minute ‘Brain Massage’
After completing a course of hypnotherapy, some clients like to book occasional top up sessions to maintain progress, reset their nervous system, and stay emotionally balanced. These sessions can be booked as a one-off, six-monthly, or annual check-in, depending on what feels most supportive for you.
Top up sessions include a blend of talking therapy and hypnosis, giving you the flexibility to process new challenges as they arise while reinforcing the calm, clarity, and confidence you have already built.
These 60 minute sessions help to:
- Reduce stress and release accumulated tension
- Quieten the mind and create space for reflection and clarity
- Reset your stress levels and re-engage your intellectual mind
- Reinforce positive changes from previous hypnotherapy work
- Support emotional regulation and ongoing resilience
Using hypnosis in these sessions allows your entire body and mind to deeply relax, while the talking therapy element gives you space to explore anything that has come up since your last session.
You will leave feeling mentally clearer, physically more relaxed, and emotionally supported. Top up sessions help you stay on track with your goals, maintain progress, and build long-term resilience, making them a powerful way to support your continued personal growth.
